Preparation For Environmental Test

Hello. Existing plastic and rubber products are greatly affected by environmental conditions. For this reason, we must perform an environmental test on the product. Among the various environmental tests, we will explain the environmental tests for various products installed in automobiles. In addition, we will learn basic preparation methods.

 

The test setup has to be prepared with sensors. Every measurement point, respectively the complete measuring chain has to be checked regarding the plausibility of the actual values. Due to implementing a new test mode in a new chamber with new equipment, a high number of thermocouples are recommended to receive information about the thermal distribution and 'hot spots' at the specimen. After gaining more experience with the new test equipment, the number of sensors can be reduced.

 

Required sensor

 

The following amount of sensors is recommended as a minimum:

 

Thermocouples : > 40

Humidity sensor : 3

Solar radiation sensor : 2

 

 

In the case of components with different function positions(e.g. sun visors, seat and ventilation flap) the test position has to be changed during the test or a distinct position has to be defined as the worst-case position.

 

It is not necessary for the tests to simulate an additional load. Thus, no dummies for the seats are needed for the test setup. Before starting the 1st high humidity cycle and before starting the 1st low humidity cycle, the conditions of the chamber have to be stabilized to a temperature of + 23℃ and to a rel. humidity of 30% for at least 6 hours. This procedure is useful to generate a comparable starting condition. Also, this time can be used to check the measurement system as well as he functions of the automobile

 

Ambient Conditions

 

Test to be conducted under ambient conditions have to be done within the following ranges:

 

Temperature : 15℃ to 30 ℃

Rel. Humidity : < 70% RH

Ambient pressure : 84kPa to 107 kPa
